Paul did not have the best of seasons in 2004 and his place will be under threat from young Tom New. In his second spell with the county after a stint with Kent, Paul is a very popular character and is a fantastic motivator. Scored a crucial 85 in the remarkable recent championship win over Worcestershire and has provided some effective cameo's in the 20/20. Again scored 85 in the Championship match at home to Essex. Has provided some crucial batting in the middle order in 20/20 matches and had a fine 2005. Contender for Player of the Year in 2006 and has had a brilliant year with bat and gloves in all forms of cricket. Awarded a well deserved benefit for 2007.
