HD signed a 3 year deal as the new County captain under the Kolpak. The South African has won 4 test caps for his country and has added much needed experience to the batting line up this season. HD has taking a particular liking to the 20/20 game and was one of the leading run scorers in 20/20 cricket this year. Managed to break the 1,000 first class runs barrier in the final match of the season at Old Trafford to cap off an excellent debut season in English cricket. Named as this sites Player of the Year for 2005. Stepped down as captain for 2006 to concentrate solely on his batting and has been in sensational form this season and passed 1,800 runs in the Championship (second highest run scorer in country) and was the County's top run scorer in the 20/20 (2nd overall begind Justin Langer). Hit the highest ever score by a Leicestershire player v Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens scoring 308 not out. Returned home to South Africa a few weeks early in 2006 for family reasons missing two games and missing out on the chance to pass 2,000 first class runs. Named as this sites Player of the Year for 2006 after an outstanding season. HD is currently back in South Africa and plays as an 'overseas' player for first class franchise 'Warriors'.
